Black Layer forms when slow draining soils high in organic matter stay wet for extended periods. These wet soils eventually become anaerobic, and after a period of time anaerobic microbes thrive, and are able to obtain oxygen by chemically removing the oxygen from sulfates in the soil, causing the formation of Hydrogen Sulfide gas which is toxic to turf root systems.

Eclipse Black Layer Treatment
Attacks Black Layer in 4 ways:
  • Ties up Hydrogen Sulfide with Activated Carbon.
  • Displaces Sodium and Iron with Calcium, providing improved structure and drainage
  • Beneficial Microbes to inhibit the production of sulfide reductase, the enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of sulfur to sulfide.
  • Generation Soil Surfactant assists recovering soils to drain and move water more effectively.
Directions for Use
Aerate or spike to a depth greater than the Black Layer. Broadcast at the rate of 6 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft., following recommended pre-application procedures described on the product label. Irrigate lightly after application. Up to 4 annual treatments may be made.
